MSU urges caution, shifts to remote operations Monday [Jan. 26] due to predicted winter weather

STARKVILLE, Miss.—º£½ÇÉçÇø is preparing for severe winter weather with university operational adjustments. MSU’s Starkville campus will shift to remote operations Monday [Jan. 26]. The Delta Research and Extension Center in Stoneville begins remote operations at 3 p.m. today [Jan. 23].

The National Weather Service is predicting a major widespread winter storm with likely travel impacts for North Mississippi.

MSU-Meridian will maintain normal operations. The Meridian forecast includes cold temperatures but no anticipated impacts from precipitation. The university will make an announcement Monday regarding the university operational status for Tuesday [Jan. 27] when more is known about road conditions.

MSU Extension and MAFES locations will follow unit leadership.

View university guidance about various operational statuses at . Starkville campus residence halls remain open. Students should check email and Canvas for class information.

Students and employees should be mindful that road conditions will vary. It may not be advisable for those traveling, particularly from northern or western directions, to return to campus by the time the university may be able to resume normal operations, depending on weather patterns and conditions.

MSU Dining will consolidate services to Perry Food Hall. Not all concepts in Perry Food Hall will be available and no Grubhub orders will be accepted at any dining location during this time. 24-hour Maroon Markets in Griffis and Azalea Halls will remain available. Hathorn POD will be open 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday-Monday [Jan. 24-26]. 

The MSU Dining schedule includes:

Saturday [Jan. 24]: Perry Food Hall, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

Sunday [Jan. 25]: Perry Food Hall, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

Monday [Jan. 26]: Perry Food Hall, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

Other MSU dining facilities will be closed, including those in the Colvard Student Union Food Court. Stay up-to-date on dining hours at and MSU Dining’s Instagram .

The Sanderson Center will be open 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday [Jan. 24] and closed Sunday and Monday [Jan. 25-26]. The Longest Student Health Center and Mitchell Memorial Library will be closed Saturday through Monday [Jan. 24-26].

MSU Athletics also is making schedule adjustments as follows:

MSU Men’s Basketball vs. Vanderbilt, Saturday [Jan. 24]: 10 a.m.-Gates open; 11 a.m.-Game starts 

Intercollegiate Tennis Association Indoor Tennis Tournament, Friday [Jan. 23]: 3 p.m.-Alabama vs. Auburn; 6 p.m.-Santa Clara vs. º£½ÇÉçÇø; Saturday: 8 a.m.-3rd Place (Consolation Championship); 11 a.m.-1st Place (Tournament Championship)

MSU Women’s Basketball at Alabama, Sunday [Jan. 25]: 2 p.m.-Game start

Students are urged to use caution as they move around campus. Sidewalks and outside stairs will be extremely slippery and most likely covered with ice in some areas. MSU encourages all students, faculty and staff to monitor weather conditions and the media for changing weather information, as well as and official university social media for updates. Be alert, exercise caution and good judgment in making travel and personal safety decisions. Beware of potential ice melt causing sliding ice from rooftops and other potential hazards.
